Braghnia

Ricker, the last on watch, wakes you all up and hands everyone a cold breakfast. You quickly set on your way and after half a day you arrive at the outskirts of Braghnia. The town is protected by a wooden wall with four large gates at the roads. The main gate is constantly open for shipments arriving and leaving. This is the gate you approach. Getting in line behind a heggler you wait patiently as the guards inspect everyone. It now comes to your turn.

The minotaur guard carries a massive axe on his back. "Welcome to Braghnia. How many in your party?" He says in a deep booming voice.

"Hello, Ruk. There are five of us." Ricker speaks up.

"Ricker! I haven't seen you in months! How's the inn? Where are the girls?" He peers around looking for Ricker's barmaids.

"The inn... the inn is gone, Ruk. The earthquake took it down."

The guard looks puzzled. "What earthquake?"

"The earthquake a few days ago. Didn't you feel it?"

"Nothing shook here!"

Someone in the line behind you shouts. "Hey! I haven't got all day!"

"Sorry, Ricker. But we have to get this moving. Five of you? Weapons?"

"Yes. Some daggers, a scythe, a sword and my staff."

"Alright, it's noted. Go on in. Nice to see you again, Ricker. Sorry to hear about the inn. Say hi to the girls for me." He waves them in and starts to question the next person in line.

"Gods." Ricker seemed a bit disturbed. "The damn ground moved enough to bring my stone inn down on top of my head and they felt nothing here!?"

"This only seems to lend more proof to lady Jesend-Zeran's vision." He pats Ricker on the shoulder. "Calm yourself, friend. We need to focus. You must be healed. Is there an inn nearby that we can meet at?" He looks around. "There." He points at a building with a sleeping owl. "We will meet there and stay the night."

Ricker walks off toward a large temple and Menzo turns back to the rest of you.

"We need gold if we are to get to this dragonborn island. Does anyone have any ideas on how to secure some?"

Tulkavoa're pats at herself as if trying to find something. From seemingly nowhere she brings out a small bag that jingles as she hands it to Menzo. "We believe this is what you are looking for? This was hidden on the tree that bore this one before we detached."

OOC: it's all her gold, so...57g.

"You go ahead and hang onto that, Tulka. We'll need more then that for such a long journey. Does anyone see any notices or advertisements for work?" He looks around the square.

Less than a year ago, Mambele would not have hesitated to suggest gambling, confident that his warlock insight into the future would ensure them the edge, but bitter experience has taught him otherwise by now.

"You know, if you gave me two months, I'm sure I could start a successful business here of some sort. Alas..." Still, he's a merchant, and he has a merchant's eye. He looks around, hoping for inspiration.

Mambele offers a conspiratorial wink to the group as he heads into the bazaar. "Just browse for a bit, everyone. This is gonna take a bit."

Perusing through the wares in the mart, he eventually selects a number of paintings, some assorted jewelry at at least two full dresses. "Can I borrow some money, Lady Tulka? I can leave my suit of good clothes as a deposit, if you'd like."

The Wilden does not hesitate to hand over the pouch. "We know not how to release the magics of these items. You are free to use them as necessary to complete our task."

Mambele takes the money with a bow and head over to the vendor. Surprisingly enough, he haggles little, opting instead to play his part as being undecided until the vendor offers to reduce the cost on his own accord. Mambele plays up his talents for being affable and charming, making an effort to leave a good impression with the vendor.

He then heads over to another vendor several blocks away and sells every item he has just purchased. He spices up each sale by using his knowledge of history to play up all the interesting aspects of each dress's manufacture, or the tumultous period in which each painting was made. He spins an elaborate history of the alleged properties of each gem, though he makes sure to offhandedly comment that he has not had a chance to prove their veracity, and is simply mentioning it as a bit of interesting folklore. He also makes sure to purchase a number of similar knicknacks from that store... then heads back to the first store and tries to sell the new purchases there!

And so he carries on for nearly four hours, until both vendors pretty much end up exchanging each other's inventory, and surrendering a good deal of money to the half-elf. They may not end up any richer, but at least now they have a far better knowlege of the value of their wares, so the warlock pretty much functioned as a highly paid curator. Still, Mambele knows better than to expect them to be grateful should they discover his actions, and he decides to wear his hood on for the rest of their visit to the city.

Okay, Mambele. Good way of telling me what you need to roll.

Fang had already gone off on his own, ignoring everyone's money woes and heading straight to the tavern Mambele had pointed out. As he wandered inside, he glanced around, searching for anything elf-related.

Fang glances up, noticing an elf heading into the inn with the sleeping owl. He thinks for a moment, looks back towards the tavern and rethinks his suggestion. "Never heard of a brawl breaking out in an inn.", is what he decided, before heading into the inn. He would call out to the elf, pulling his hood up over his head before doing so. "Er, excuse me, sir?", he said, not noticing if it were male or female.

Tulka had noticed some posters on a building right before Mambele had asked for her coin. She walked over to them to get a better look.

Fang:

The elf turns around and you can see that it is a powerfully built woman. She gives you a hard look under your hood. "Sir?" She asks. "I may choose to take offense, shifter. What do you want of me?"

Tulka:

The poster is an advertisement for a local celebration known as 'Harvest's Rite'. The picture of two minotaur wrestling is a traditional contest that anyone can join in for a chance at 'Gold and glory!' Perhaps some locals will know more?

Ooc Um... Heheh! Sorry. Should have known better than assume that a good streetwise roll would have been enough to accomplish everything. My apologies.

Due to your impressive knowledge of the history of the items as well as your skill in convincing the merchants of their worth, you have managed to turn Tulka's 57 gold into 250 gold.

You also managed to purchase a small rod that one of the merchants was selling as a rolling pin, unaware that it was magical in nature. Your keen eye recognized it as a powerful focus for your warlocks curse and you secured it for a mere pittance!

"I haven't been here long. I'm just here for the matches tomorrow." She says. "But tell me about this elf, perhaps I have seen them in my travels." She waves you inside where you follow her to a table.
