The Great Divide

Eons ago, back when the world was healthy and strong, it was invaded by demons and eladrin. The demons attacked first, seeing a world ripe for plunder and chaos. They burned a swath of destruction across the land, murdering entire cities and corrupting the survivors. As they vile demonic forces marched across Sollette, the eladrin saw an opportunity to enslave some humans as manual labor. Their invasion was fast and decisive. Entire towns were taken without any one else knowing. The disappearances were blamed on the demons. Eventually the eladrin stopped, deciding they had enough and they quietly faded back into the feywild with their new slaves. Meanwhile the demons were meeting resistance. Massive armies marched against them, beating them back, only to lose ground the next day. Years passed without any progress and eventually the gods were able to intervene. Clerics and paladins, angels and avatars all fought against the demon forces at once. Crushing them and sending them back to the abyss. The damage was already done, however. Entire civilizations were destroyed. Many people had hidden underground, deciding not to leave the safety of their mountain homes. The eladrin had taken thousands of slaves without anyone noticing. And worst of all was the massive scar that cut across the world. Now known as the Great Divide, it separates the north and south with a barren desert, devoid of life.
